WOMEN’S ENGINEERING PROGRAM

0+ women trained

Building Skills

The Women’s Engineering Program is a hands-on training initiative created for community women, with limited formal education. Through this program, participants build their agency and gain technical and leadership skills.

Restoring Wells

The three-phase program is conducted by a government-certified engineer specializing in hydraulics, water, and sanitation, alongside two qualified craftsmen, each with over 15 years of experience.

Leading Change

Our program has educated and empowered hundreds of community women to monitor, repair, and support local water systems, ensuring uninterrupted and sustainable access to water, even during moments of socio-political instability.

Graduates have helped restore hundreds of wells, directly impacting the lives of thousands in Burkina Faso.

The Oasis Model

Reimagining Water Access with Innovation and Sustainability.
The Georgie Badiel Foundation's Oasis Model is designed to provide sustainable community access to clean water while supporting micro-agriculture, livelihoods, learning, and community connection.

Reliable & Solar-Powered

Water Tower: Solar-powered and designed to hold a minimum of 5,000 liters (5m³), the tower delivers up to 5,000 liters of clean water per hour.
Meter: Tracks daily water usage and supports transparent, pay-as-you-go contributions for sustainability.
Collection Point: Features up to five spouts for efficiency & easy access.
Staffed Distribution Center: Managed by a full-time attendant to support daily operations, collect payments, and ensure responsible use. Job creation opportunity for the community.
Sustainable Approach: Community members contribute one penny for 20 liters of water. These funds are deposited into an account to support station maintenance and repair.

Micro-Agriculture & Livelihoods

Community Garden: Green space enables women to grow vegetables and herbs to support household income and nutrition.
Sustainable Ecosystem: Gardens are enriched with composted organic waste as part of our circular system.
Local Plants with Purpose:
• Moringa trees help purify groundwater and serve as an herbal supplement.
• Citronella repels mosquitoes and can be harvested for use or sale.
• Shea, mango, and papaya trees offer shade and produce.
Animal Watering Point: A barrel provides clean water for livestock.
Traditional Fence: A locally constructed enclosure protects crops and secures the space.

Learning & Connection

Study Corner: An external, well-lit area with a blackboard for learning.
Lighting & Electricity: Solar-powered light poles keep the premises safe after dark. Electrical outlets for community members to charge devices (e.g., cell phones, lamps).
Seating: A community bench for rest, discussion and gathering.

Education & Dignified Sanitation

Public Toilets: Two accessible and gender-sensitive toilets built to support hygiene and privacy for all community members.
WASH Education: Interactive hygiene education sessions delivered in nearby schools and community spaces to build lifelong habits in water safety, sanitation, and disease prevention.

Schools & Communities: Partner in Purpose

We invite educators and community leaders to use The Water Princess and Georgie’s journey to spark learning, empathy, and action. Inspire students to become changemakers through service-learning, entrepreneurship, and fundraising that directly supports clean water and opportunity in Burkina Faso.

80 schools using The Water Princess curriculum

At the heart of our youth program is The Water Princess, Georgie’s childhood story of resilience and hope. Through this beautifully illustrated book, currently available in 8 languages, we spark conversations about global water challenges and the power of individual action.

Designed for students up to 5th grade, our school-based initiative uses storytelling to engage discussions about empathy, problem-solving, and overcoming obstacles. These activities help children understand the importance of water as a human right while cultivating a sense of global citizenship.

Across the country, from New Jersey to Indiana, student-led entrepreneurial efforts are raising awareness and funds, turning learning into action.

Each partnership becomes a bridge connecting young people in the U.S. with their peers in West Africa. And when a well is built at a school in Burkina Faso, students here can see the real impact of their collective efforts.
